Filling X-Bar pods: why 2 ml, and why the duration varies

Each X-Bar pod contains 2 ml of e-liquid. This is the maximum capacity allowed in Europe for an e-cigarette pod, and it is the quantity our machines put into each pod.

Yet two people using the same pod do not get the same duration of use. Here is how a pod is filled, and what makes its consumption vary.

2 ml per pod: what the regulations say

The European Tobacco Products Directive (Directive 2014/40/EU, Article 20), transposed into French law, regulates electronic cigarettes. Among other things, it sets two limits:

• a capacity of 2 ml maximum for a pod;
• a nicotine concentration of 20 mg/ml maximum.

Click & Puff pods are designed for this 2 ml capacity. A pod containing more could not be sold in France or in the European Union.

How our pods are filled

Filling carried out by machine

X-Bar pods are not filled by hand: filling is carried out by machines set to put 2 ml of e-liquid into each pod. This process gives the same quantity from one pod to the next and from one batch to the next.

Each pod combines the atomiser, the coil and the e-liquid-soaked cotton in a single unit. It is supplied pre-filled and ready to be inserted on the battery.

Accurate filling, a production requirement

X-Bar pays particular attention to respecting this quantity. This rigour meets two requirements: the regulatory compliance of each pod, and the assurance that you receive the same quantity of e-liquid with every order.

Why a pod does not last the same time for everyone

The quantity of e-liquid is the same in every pod. What changes is the quantity used each time. A pod works like a small 2 ml reservoir: each inhalation vaporises a fraction of it.

Each inhalation can be compared to a sip: depending on whether they are short or long, spaced out or close together, the same starting quantity lasts a longer or shorter time. As a guide, a Click & Puff pod corresponds on average to around 650 puffs.

Pod wear also depends on use

A pod contains the e-liquid, but also the coil that vaporises it. This coil wears with each inhalation: sustained use, with long and closely spaced inhalations, puts more strain on it than spaced-out use.

The pod is designed so that the coil works until the 2 ml of e-liquid is used up. A few simple habits help you use it in good conditions to the end:

• space out inhalations rather than taking them one after another;
• do not inhale on an empty pod, as this heats the coil without e-liquid;
• store pods away from heat and direct light;
• replace the pod as soon as the vapour drops noticeably.

Pre-filled pod and rechargeable battery

The Click & Puff combines two elements: a pre-filled pod, which is replaced once empty, and a battery rechargeable via its USB-C port, which you keep. This is the principle of the rechargeable puff.

Why does my pod empty faster than someone else’s?

All X-Bar pods contain 2 ml. The difference comes from the way you vape: the length, number and pace of inhalations determine how much e-liquid is used.

Can an X-Bar pod be refilled?

Click & Puff pods are pre-filled: once empty, they are replaced with a new pod. Only the battery is recharged, via its USB-C port.

My pod looks less full on arrival, is that normal?

The visible level can vary slightly depending on the position of the pod or the presence of air in the reservoir. If you find a pod that is empty or unusually low, contact our customer service at support@x-bar.co with your order number: we reply within 48 hours.

Are there pods larger than 2 ml?

No. In France and in the European Union, the capacity of a pod is limited to 2 ml by regulation.
